Danielle Teel was born in Riverside, CA and grew up near Grand Rapids, MI. She completed a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science at Grand Valley State University in 2000. While attending Grand Valley, Dr. Danielle trained as an optician and received her ABO certification where she fell in love with eye care. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois in 2004, where she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society as well as the Gold Key Honor Society. She also ran the Chicago Marathon twice while attending optometry school.
After graduating from optometry school, Dr. Danielle completed a one year postdoctoral residency at Indiana University School of Optometry, Bloomington, IN focusing on pediatrics and binocular vision. While at IU she became interested in research and went on to complete her PhD in Vision Science with an emphasis in the area of vision development. During this time, she authored various research papers as well as performed as a clinical instructor to optometry students and volunteered her skills to a VOSH mission in Mexico.
She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, maintains memberships with the American Optometric Association, the Indiana Optometric Association, and is the current president of the Northeast Indiana Optometric Society.
After moving to SW Fort Wayne and seeing the growth, as well as practicing as the independent optometrist in Costco for 9 years, Dr. Danielle decided it was time to take the next step and open a practice SW Fort Wayne. With her skills as a trained optician, experience as an optometrist in all areas including pediatrics and dry eye and her passion for optometry she wanted to provide a full scope experience to her patients in the SW Fort Wayne and surrounding areas. She takes pride in providing a peaceful, Zen-like environment for her patients as she provides their eye care needs.
In her spare time, Dr. Danielle enjoys spending time with her two boys, Owen and Rhys as well as her 2 naughty dogs, an English Mastiff and an English Bulldog. She enjoys any time outdoors and loves to travel with her boys. She also enjoys walking, yoga and meditation as well as painting when she has the time. Most of all she enjoys getting to know her patients so she can provide a personalized experience.
